In order to reinforce learning under the theme of food and nutrition and boost students' confidence in using English, 40 junior form students were invited to visit Outback Steakhouse for a food culture workshop. Students attended a table etiquette workshop and had the opportunity to experience Australian food culture.
Under the theme of community, 22 students from Secondary 1 have the chance to participate in the activity of Dialogue in the Dark in order to know more about our surroundings and learn English.They had a tour in a completely dark environment to know more about the life of the visually-impaired by using their senses of touch, smell and hearing. Moreover, students interacted with the visually-impaired to learn how they carry out daily routines in darkness.
Secondary 2 students use red packets and scrap paper to make recycled paper. Students write or stick mottos on the recycled paper and use them as bookmarks to go with their student handbooks or as thank you cards. This activity allows students to apply the new vocabulary they have learnt. It also deepens their understanding of the inventions of China and raises their awareness of environmental conservation.
18 students from Secondary 5 joined a 3-hour Phonetics and Phonology Workshop organized by the University of Sunderland in Hong Kong. As shown from the photos, students were attentive and engaged in the English activities. Overall, this workshop consolidates students’ knowledge of phonetic sounds, stress and intonation and enhances their communicative competence.
With the motto to learn with joy, we would like to make every attempt to create a desirable learning environment for our junior form students, which leads to the introduction of CCE Board Game Café. CCE teachers and students meet up during lunch break to play board games and learn English.There are many interesting board games to test students’ intelligence. To make games more challenging and meaningful, they are required to communicate in English by giving their instructions or responding to each other. Under this joyful atmosphere, they are more willing to express their ideas in English. This is a good step to help them build up confidence and interest in using English.
